Configuring Workstation Identification

 

Choosing Workstation Identification from the menu will display the following page.

Note

If this setting is changed at a later date, all workstations will be removed from the database and will have to be imported or added again.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

These settings adjust the options available in certain workstation configurations (see Working with Workstations and Importing Workstations for details).

 

Use the MAC Address method for a site with a flat address space and no routers in the topology. 

 

Use IP Address identification for topologies with routers. For example, where workstations are connected over multiple VLANs or use VPNs to connect remote sites back to the CN Pro.

 

Use Host Name identification where you have a number of remote users who have signed up with a dynamic DNS service, or where you have configured your internal DNS servers to return a host’s name by its IP address.
