As users surf, they
may find themselves prevented from visiting various sites, and may request a
site be unblocked. These notifications to unblock will occur either at the time
the user clicks the button, or through a daily digest of the previous day’s
requests. These requests can be managed by selecting Unblock Requests from the Reports
menu. Figure 9.19 shows an example page with just one request.

Figure 9.19 - Unblock Requests Summary Page
|
|
Note Duplicate
requests are only shown once. |
The Unblock Requests Summary page allows the
following options:
Ignore path in URL: This check box is ticked by default. The URL in the report will be the full URL to
the blocked resource. Normally, you will
want to just allow the entire domain to be unblocked and this check box enables
this. If you should only wish to unblock
this resource, but not the entire domain, then ensure this checkbox is
un-ticked.
|
|
Note If
you generally want this un-ticked type the following at the command line as
root : touch /etc/cnv4/ignore_paths |
Send to Category: Use this option to assign the URL to a
selected category from the drop-down box.
|
|
Note Categories
that are known to be blocked are listed for two reasons. Firstly, some
categories may be allowed in one policy but disallowed in another. Secondly,
if a user insists on requesting a known blocked URL, it can be assigned to a
category that is disallowed and therefore prevents the user seeing the Unblock Request button. |
Dismiss Selected: Use this option to dismiss a selected item, which
simply removes it from the list of pending unblock requests. It is not added to the database at all.
Should any users attempt to visit the same site, it will still be blocked
although they may then issue a new request.
